Livingston Fine Art Association welcomes artist Heiner Hertling on Cleary’s Campus

(HOWELL, MI) The Livingston Fine Art Association (LFAA) is pleased to announce that Heiner Hertling, an internationally acclaimed local artist and teacher, will be the featured speaker at the LFAA’s meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Cleary University’s Commons Building (first right when you enter campus).

Doors open at 6:30 pm, and Hertling’s presentation will begin at 7 pm. He will talk about creating at his studio, and he also will conduct a demonstration on painting plein air painting, considered one of the best ways for an artist to learn to see the true colors of nature and capture the mood and feeling of a scene or place. En plein air is a French expression that means “in the open air.” Many artists throughout history – including Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Claude Monet – created their works through plein air painting. This technique requires specific skills and techniques.

Hertling is the founder of the Michigan Plein Air Painters and member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artists. His television series, “Your Brush with Nature,” earned an Emmy nomination and international acclaim. Hertling began drawing and painting as a child in Germany, and started his career in commercial art and advertising – first in Hamburg, Germany, and then in New York – until he joined some of the best illustrators and artists in the Detroit auto industry, and eventually opened his own studio.

The LFAA meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm at Cleary University, located at 3750 Cleary Drive (off Grand River Avenue and west of Latson Road).

Everyone is welcome. Note: the meeting on Sept. 26 will take place in Cleary’s Chrysler Building, Room 112.

Mark your calendar for the LFAA Fantasy of Art Show, Friday, Nov. 24 from 3 pm to 9 pm, and Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10 am to 6 pm, at the Howell Opera House.
